RECENT STUDY FINDS CLEAR ALIGNER MORE BENEFICIAL THAN TRADITIONAL FIXED BRACES (taken from the Ortho Tribune)
A team of German researchers recently compared the oral health status, oral hygiene, and treatment satisfaction of patients treated with fixed appliances and Invisalign clear aligners.
It was found that gingival (gum) health was significantly better in patients treated with Invisalign compared with fixed appliances. This is not really very surprising as Invisalign is removed during routine toothbrushing and flossing is also carried out normally. Questioning of the patients in the study group also showed greater levels of satisfaction amongst Invisalign patients. Only 6% of Aligner patients reported impairment of their general well-being during orthodontic treatment compared with 36% of patients with fixed appliances. There were also significant differences between the groups with regards to; irritation from the brace, having to change eating habits and being too self-conscious to laugh; with Invisalign patients having less issues across the board.
