Patients under the age of 18 can benefit from NHS treatment if they meet specific criteria. We assess using score criteria called IOTN (Index of Orthodontic Treatment Needs). We generally accept patients for NHS treatment if they have dental health reasons. These can be include protrusion of teeth, severe mal-alignment, crowding or congenitally missing teeth.
Many milder cases may not be eligible for NHS orthodontic treatment. In these cases, we do offer a range of private self-funded options for your consideration.
What to expect at an appointment
At your initial assessment, our specialist orthodontist will examine your teeth and jaws and record a number of measurements, including your IOTN, to check if you qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment.
Before we can see you for an orthodontic assessment, we need a referral from your normal dentist seeing you for the assessment. The assessment is free and we will normally see you within 8 weeks of the referral; however NHS orthodontic treatment here at Teeth-in-Line is subject to a treatment waiting list.
